Well welcome back to what is the last day of this Bible study one what we need to do when our backs are against the wall. This all stemmed from Moses talking to the Israelites when they were in a difficult spot…and yes, I’m going to read it again to you today.
Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
We don’t have to be afraid, stand firm, be still, and let God do what God does…I love that.
So today we take a look at another place in Scripture where we see the phrase “be still”, and yes, it’s another place in Psalms. So, if you have a Bible and maybe something to write with grab it, and we will get started.
Psalms 37:7 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. NLT
Now I would like to ask you some questions, so let’s slow down and take the time to reflect intentionally on this verse and these questions.
- What can you take from this passage in the moments where you find yourself in a difficult spot?
- When things are not going your way in life, is it possible to be still, engage God and wait for Him to act? What are some practical ways that you could be still in God’s presence and wait on Him to move?
- Did you notice that second sentence? Don’t worry about people who prosper…have you ever noticed how hard it is to move at God’s speed (which is often slower than we want) when it feels like everyone else is getting out ahead of you? Ask yourself what you are focused on, is it God or are you competing with others in life?
Before you move on from this moment, take some time and pray, talk to your Heavenly Father about what it looks like to turn to God, and to find strength in Him and hopefully you can keep reflecting on this verse as you go about your day. Grab the image from social media, put it on your phone and keep centering on it, especially if you are struggling with life or feel like your back is against the wall find encouragement and strength in God’s word.
